BLOW ME AWAY
They fall in line one at a time
Ready to play
Newport, Washington is not a small town yet it is not a major city. Settled on the coast it gets a great deal of rain and snow. When most people think of Washington they think of Seattle. Yet this city definitely comes close to Seattle with its drama. You see, it is home to two schools. Newport High School, a public school that is rather large and is home to the middle and lower class students for the most part. This school has great sports teams and academic standards. Yet they have to deal with the students that are only there because they have to be. On the other side of town there is St. Thomas Academy, home to the upper class citizens children. These kids are the cream of the crop, driving around in their flashy sports cars. Their sports teams are brilliant and grab more headlines than Newport High School. When it comes to academics they're in top shape too, boasting high SAT scores and great teachers who really know their stuff.
Now one might think that might be just enough right there to make Newport and St. Thomas not get along. But that's only the tinder of the first. The true spark started years ago in the 1950's when both schools just opened. Regina Hays was a preppy, smart and intelligent student at St. Thomas. When she walked down the freshly waxed hallways everybody stopped and stared. She met Brent Dillan, he was everything she wanted in a guy. His main talent was sports but he got by with B's in the classroom. They only thing was, Brent went to Newport High School. The relationship between the two was kept under wraps for the longest time. Until one stormy evening in April. The rain was lashing at the windows and everybody stayed inside, for the most part. Brent and Regina were coming home from the movie when disaster struck. The two were involved in a car accident and both died. Well you can imagine what happened. First there was shock about the relationship between the two. Then people at St. Thomas blamed Newport for letting it happen and the students at Newport blamed St. Thomas for the loss of their sports star. Ever since then the students have not gotten along well.
No time lose we've got to move
Steady your hand
Every year, ten scholarships are given out to St. Thomas. The first place they look is Newport High School. After all, they know that there is smart students there who are not well off financially. The students that really want to go to St. Thomas battle it out in many ways. St. Thomas is always looking at the people with the 4.0 GPAs and the stars to Newport's teams.
Fire your guns it's time to run
Blow me away
After the fall we'll shake it off
Show me the way
In recent years the big showdown between the two schools has been through sports. Although Newport usually plays public schools and St. Thomas plays the other private schools around for the most part. Every year the two schools have at least one major battle on the field and court. This is the game that everybody looks forward to, it proves who is really on top. Usually St. Thomas wins after all, they can afford the best. This year St. Thomas is sponsoring an academic competition though, could this be Newport's moment to shine? Only time will tell.
Only the strongest will survive
Lead me to heaven when we die
I have a shadow on the wall
I'll be the one to save us all
